Presentation: “The American Revolution on the American Frontier”
Free to WJHHS and Community Members
Norene Beatty, member of the Friends Saving
Pittsburgh’s Old Stone Tavern, will tell
compelling stories about the people and events
on the frontier during the Revolutionary War.
During that time, Western Pennsylvania would
have been part of the American frontier—still
quite uncivilized compared to cities like
Philadelphia, Boston, and New York along the
East Coast. WJHHS members and members of
the community are invited to attend this lecture
on June 27 where they will learn about the
important individuals and happenings in Western Pennsylvania and the Ohio Valley
during the American Revolution.

Pittsburgh’s WWII veterans. Author of Bill
Mauldin: A Life Up Front and professor of history
at Waynesburg University, Dr. DePastino will first
share details about his Veterans Breakfast Club, a
place where veterans can tell their stories and
share camaraderie with other veterans. Then, he
will relate several heartwarming, poignant, and
sometimes tragic WWII stories he has heard
from many local veterans. Attendees are invited
to bring photographs of their WWII veterans to
display on a memorial table. Autographed
copies of Dr. DePastino’s book will be available
for sale.
