Local Company, Local Roots
W
hen Realtor Melissa Steffey was recruited out of a
corporate-chain real estate company to work for
Jeffrey Costa Select Realty, she saw the opportunity
to really get back to her local roots. Her commitment
to the South Hills runs deep, and working for a local business was an
important consideration for her.
“It’s a newer brokerage based out of Elizabeth, where I grew up, and
it gave me the opportunity to start the Melissa Steffey Team,” Steffey
said. “I was a mentor manager at my previous brokerage in addition to
handling my own clients, so I’ve been able to expand my role here by
managing my own team and helping some newer agents break into
the business.”
She has helped homeowners buy and sell homes all over the South
Hills—from Elizabeth to Mt. Lebanon.
A longtime fixture in the Jefferson Hills community, Steffey not only
has children in the West Jefferson Hills School District, but also serves
on the Jefferson Hills Recreation Board.
“I have a lot of clients who are residents in the community already.
They are looking to upgrade a little bit, but want to stay in the school
district,” she said. “The school district drives a lot of attention into the
real estate in this area, and a lot of residents who want to expand a
little bit for more space want to work with me because they know how
entrenched I am here.”
And when she says “entrenched,” she means it. Steffey can tell you
which neighborhoods are served by which school bus routes off the
top of her head because that’s information that’s important in her
clients’ decision-making.
“With my knowledge of the market and my two buyers agents
working alongside me, Katlyn Bercik and Sarah Smith, I’ve been able
to expand my services to more clients as well as help train all of the
new agents from the ground up,” she said. “It is so important to me
to help new agents who are just starting out in the business. They
need to always keep it in the back of their mind that we as agents are
responsible for one of the largest financial purchases that a person
will make in their lifetime. Jeffrey Costa Select Realty was founded by
Jeff Costa and Guy Reschenthaler to help bridge a gap between the
homebuilding industry and Realtors where clients were getting lost
in the shuffle as they were trying to sell their existing homes through
other companies during the building process.”
As a Multimillion Dollar Producer with 2017 sales of $6.4 million,
Steffey will have no problem transitioning to her new “home.”

and representing the borough as a longstanding member of the
Recreation Board, where she’s been serving for the past eight years.
