HEALTH DEPARTMENT ANNOUNCES PLEASANT HILLS STORE ADDED TO WIC PROGRAM
The Allegheny County Health Department announced that a new store located in Pleasant Hills has been approved as an authorized location for the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women , Infants and Children ( WIC ) and has begun accepting WIC checks .
The store is the SHOP ‘ n SAVE located at 649 Old Clairton Road .
There are more than 100 WIC-authorized stores in Allegheny County . Locations and directions to the stores can be found on the health department ’ s website at achd . net / wic .
WIC is a federally funded program for pregnant or breastfeeding women , postpartum mothers , infants and children under the age of 5 . Program eligibility is based on income and nutritional risk .
The 2016 -17 income limits for eligibility start with an annual gross income of $ 21,978 for a family of one ; $ 29,637 for two ; $ 37,296 for three ; $ 44,955 for four ; and $ 52,614 for five . Unborn children are counted when the woman is pregnant . Allegheny County residents with family sizes larger than five should contact the health department directly for benefit information .
WIC families receive nutrition information , breastfeeding support , referrals and food vouchers redeemable at participating grocery stores for infant formula ; infant cereal ; milk ; eggs ; cheese ; juice ; cereal ; peanut butter ; whole grains , including bread , tortillas , oatmeal and rice ; soy beverage ; tofu ; jarred baby foods ; dry or canned beans ; canned
tuna / sardines / pink salmon ; and fresh / frozen / canned fruits and vegetables . Certain whole wheat pastas and yogurts have also been added to the food list .

REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN FOR THE CLEAN WATER ACADEMY : ALCOSAN ’ S SUMMER STEM PROGRAM FOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS BEGINS JULY 17
Ignore the winter weather and start thinking about summer . Registration is now open for the Allegheny County Sanitary Authority ’ s Clean Water Academy .
The week-long day camp is designed for students in grades 9 and 10 . This enrichment program exposes students to science , technology , engineering and math content relating to wastewater treatment . Topics include engineering , chemistry , microbiology and technology . The camp will be held from 9 a . m . to 3 p . m ., Monday through Friday , July 17 through July 21 . The program is free and most of the activities will be held at ALCOSAN ’ s North Side plant . Staff from ALCOSAN ’ s Scholastic Outreach and Education Department will lead the camp along with faculty members from Carlow University .
Students must bring their own lunches , except on Friday , when pizza will be provided . Morning and afternoon snacks are included , and bus tickets will be provided as needed . NOMINATING PETITIONS FOR MAY PRIMARY ARE NOW AVAILABLE
The Elections Division announced that nominating petitions for all elected offices appearing on the May 16 Municipal Primary ballot , except statewide judicial and Court of Common Pleas races , are now available . Nominating petitions may be obtained by visiting the Elections Division in Room 601 of the County Office Building located at 542 Forbes Avenue in downtown Pittsburgh . THREE RIVERS QUILTERS TO HOST ANNUAL QUILT SHOW
The Three Rivers Quilters Guild will present the 2017 Quilt Show April 27-29 at a new location , the Meadows Racetrack and Casino Special Event Center , 210 Racetrack Road , Washington . This colorful show will feature over 100 quilts created by fabric artists from far and wide . Quilts will range from miniatures to bed size , done in many different techniques . In addition , there will be ongoing quilting demonstrations , a sewing-related
