USC ’ s inline hockey teams celebrate a winning season .

In the Pittsburgh area , almost everyone loves hockey . The Penguins practically walk on frozen water , and clearly help foster a love of the game for people of all ages . However , not everyone has the funds , opportunity or time to play ice hockey , which makes having an alternative like inline hockey a perfect solution .
For the past 10 years , Upper St . Clair has participated and grown its inline hockey program and can claim last season to be the most successful in recent years .
“ Of our five teams , two had championship wins : one at the elementary school level and one at the high school level ,” says Eric Bernstein , current president of the USC Inline Hockey Board . “ Our other middle school team was runner-up in their championship game and all five of our teams finished with one of our players taking the top spot in the total points scored . We ’ re so proud of our players .”
USC Inline Hockey is available for boys and girls living in Upper St . Clair Township and from surrounding communities that don ’ t have an inline hockey program . Teams are comprised of kids ages 6 to 18 and grades 2 through 12 . They practice at the Bridgeville Rollerplex and play games at local arenas from downtown Pittsburgh to Harmarville and beyond .
“ We keep practices to once a week and one game per weekend , which helps kids and parents manage their time and commitments to other sporting or family events ,” says Bernstein . “ This sport and league is intended to be fun and competitive without taking over everyone ’ s daily schedule , and it ’ s nice to know the teams we play against adhere to the same kind of schedule as us .”
