Music Therapy Program Expands to Include Heartbeat Legacy Work

The Pathways Music Therapy Program brings a unique dimension of healing and comfort to hospice patients and counseling clients . Pathways ’ trained music therapists use controlled elements of music to fulfill the physical , mental , emotional and spiritual needs of individuals .
Pathways would like to give a special thank you to Synergy Resources Corporation , which donated nearly $ 8,000 to Pathways in December 2016 . Synergy employees donated the funds and specially chose Pathways as one of three organizations to receive their gift . The company performs domestic oil and natural gas exploration and production services , and they are proud to support their community in many ways .
The Music Therapy Program has recently expanded to include a heartbeat legacy program to offer additional avenues for serving and caring for patients . The heartbeat legacy program involves the recording of patients ’ and family members ’ heartbeats using a stethoscope that has been retrofitted with a microphone . The heartbeat audio file is then entered in a composition computer program , where it is then matched with an original piece of music . The result is an irreplaceable memento that can be cherished by loved ones for years to come .
Family members are encouraged to be involved in the music selection process and even lend their voices to the music track so that the song is even more personal . This process is not only one of the many ways to care for and cherish hospice patients , but it also provides a channel for supporting family members ’ anticipatory grief needs .
The concept for the heartbeat recording legacy program originated at the Cincinnati Children ’ s Hospital Medical Center and has since become widely popular . It has already received positive reactions among our families , and we look forward to fully executing this service in northern Colorado .
McAlister ’ s Deli generously donated lunch for 25 people at the Physicians Luncheon in Greeley at the end of January . The delicious order included sandwiches , sides and beverages and was thoroughly enjoyed by all in attendance . We appreciate their generosity and commitment to the northern Colorado community !
Trader Joe ’ s in Fort Collins is known for supporting their community , and recently they have shown great kindness by donating flowers to the Pathways Hospice Care Center at McKee Medical Center . Volunteers pick up the flowers and turn them into beautiful bouquets for patients ’ rooms and common areas . They truly brighten the days of patients and families and make the Care Center a warm and inviting place .
