A Prescient Wish
for New
City Engineer
Not long after John Thomas
graduated from Santa Clara
University with a degree in
civil engineering, he met San
Francisco’s City Engineer and a
fellow Bronco alum and thought
to himself: “That’s a job I’d like
someday.”
Today, 30 years later, his wish
came true. Public Works Director
Mohammed Nuru appointed
Thomas City Engineer and deputy
director of infrastructure on June
16.
In his role, Thomas – a Public
Works veteran – manages
Design & Engineering, Project
Management & Construction
and Street Use & Mapping. He
also will continue to oversee the
