Chief Medical Examiner Project Making Progress Construction crews have been making tremendous progress on San Francisco’s new Office of the Chief Medical Examiner headquarters in the Bayview. The $65 million facility at 1 Newhall St. is scheduled to open this fall, two years after we broke ground. to move to a new, state-of-the- art building from its previous location at the half-century-old, seismically deficient Hall of Justice at 850 Bryant St. The project allows the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner The project is funded by the $400 million Earthquake Safety The office investigates more than 1,200 deaths each year. and Emergency Response Bond, approved by voters in 2014. San Francisco Public Works oversaw design of the unique building and its highly technical laboratories and is responsible for construction management.
