Talented Public Works employees
are not just good at keeping our
streets clean and managing our
building and roadway projects:
We also are skilled at handling
ping-pong paddles!
For the first time in seven
years of participating in the
annual Chinatown Ping-Pong
Tournament, Team Public
Works advanced to the semi-
finals this year and finished in a
commendable fourth place, just a
couple of Ping-Pong ball bounces
away from the final championship
round. Although we didn’t win a
medal this year, we sure had a lot
of fun.
The 7th Annual Chinatown Ping-
Pong Tournament kicked off at
Portsmouth Square on Aug. 20.
Mayor Ed Lee, who founded the
event, showed off his table tennis
prowess as he played friendly
matches against community
members and department heads,
including the Public Works
Director Mohammed Nuru.
A big thank you to Team Public
Works Captain Albert Ko,
and hats off to all our players:
Mohammed Nuru, Allison Seibel,
Youcef Bouhamama, Jonathan
Gomwalk, David Reyla, Dave
Wang, Chelsea Wong, Ian
Schneider, Amanda Sommers,
Matthew Lim, Panoyoti
Papadimitriou, Sean O’Brien and
Aaron Khaw.
We also want to congratulate
Team SFMTA for winning the
championship.
