9/5 Moscone Expansion Project Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony Join Mayor Ed Lee, City Administrator Naomi Kelly and Public Works Director Mohammed Nuru to celebrate the completion of Phase 2 of the $551 million Moscone Expansion Project, which includes a new ballroom, flexible meeting rooms and expansive lobby. You are sure to find plenty of hidden gems and historic places to explore along the route. 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Check out the route map. 9/14 & 9/16 San Francisco Public Works Architecture + the City Festival Every year in September, the American Institute of Architects SF and the Center for Architecture and Design host the Architecture and the City Festival, a month of programs celebrating design, including walking tours, lectures, home tours and film screenings. The festival theme this year is "Secret City". In keeping with this theme, San Francisco Public Works’ Building Design and Construction Division is presenting two events: a behind the scenes tour of Market Street, and the ultimate insider’s guide to San Francisco. 9/16 The Ultimate Insider’s Guide Proxy in Hayes Valley We selected 50 places to feature in a short film and in a collection of limited edition postcards, creating the “Ultimate Insider’s Guide to San Francisco.” Join our ultimate insiders for a fun evening of film, food and drink celebrating our unique city, and snag a limited edition postcard of your favorite secret spot. Hidden in Plain Sight Market Street Tour This tour led by Public Works designers from the Better Market Street team will celebrate history and social justice, infrastructure and ecology, and climate change and resilience along San Francisco’s Market Street. Learn about historic buildings, hidden tunnels, buried ships, the language of street paint, secret messages from fire hydrants, an investigation of the city’s former coastal edge – and more! Community Clean Team Coastal Cleanup in District 3 Community Clean Team is San Francisco Public Works’ longest- running and largest volunteer program that keeps San Francisco beautiful through landscaping and gardening projects, graffiti removal and litter cleanup in our neighborhoods. Francisco Middle School 2190 Powell St. 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. (Registration begins at 8:30 a.m.) 9/21 The Commons on 3rd Thursdays Every third Thursday through October, Civic Center’s public spaces will feature live music, food trucks, beer gardens and family-friendly activities.
