29 DCS In the Community / September, 2016

In April of this year, Broderick and his fellow officers from the Atlanta Field Office hosted a resource fair, “Bridging the Gap,” at the Parks and Recreation Center in East Point, Georgia. The event was open to DCS offenders as well as all members of the communities of College Park and East Point.

The goal was to link offenders to employment, and also help them overcome barriers to obtaining employment. "We aren't asking for handouts," Broderick said. "We're trying to connect offenders who are trying to get back on their feet with tangible resources in the community."

More than 15 vendors attended, and more than 200 people received job interviews, as well as information and access to a wide variety of services. The overwhelming success of the event ensure that similar events will be held in the future.
