tradition

T
o say that Colussy Chevrolet has enjoyed a long
history as a franchised automobile dealership is a
bit of an understatement. The family-run operation
on Washington Pike in South Fayette Township was
estab¬lished 100 years ago in 1918, which makes it one of the
oldest continuously operated dealerships of its kind in the nation.
The Colussy family emigrated from Italy in the early 1900s. The
late Louis Colussy and his six sons started their careers in America
as contractors building houses and buildings around the Bridgeville
area. Louis’ oldest son, Albert, was put in charge of their very first
company truck in 1915. He became a proficient auto mechanic,
which started his love of the automobile. In 1917, with the help
of his father, Albert procured the Elgin Auto Company franchise.
By 1918 he applied for the Chevrolet franchise in Bridgeville and,
again with the help of his father, acquired that franchise.
Brothers Albert, Gilbert and Arthur ran and grew the Chevrolet
business successfully for the first 50 years. Despite the hardships
they faced during the Great Depression, two World Wars, an all-
encompassing fire that destroyed the building and their homes,
and the ever-evolving challenges of the automobile business, the
company prospered.
In the early 1970s Albert’s son, Louis “Skip” Colussy, took over
as dealer principal and moved the business to its current location
in South Fayette. The company continued to grow in the state-of-
the-art building for the following 30 years. The new millennium
ushered in continued expansion and growth as well. Skip’s two
sons, Tim and Jon, took over leadership of the business. Additional
adjacent property was acquired, which expanded the footprint of
the campus to nearly nine acres. They added a new state-of- the-
art collision center in 2005 followed by further expansion and
remodeling in 2012.
THE COLUSSY FAMILY CONTINUES TO GROW
THE DEALERSHIP WITH THEIR “CUSTOMER FIRST”
PHILOSOPHY OF BUSINESS. CUSTOMER SATISFACTION
HAS BEEN A CENTURY-LONG TRADITION FOR THE
COLUSSY FAMILY.
Their exclusive Complete Care-Plus program provides customers
with additional free maintenance on new and pre-owned vehicles,
which helps the dealership to have a very high customer retention
rate. Colussy Chevrolet is also one of the largest Chevrolet
Commercial Truck dealerships in the Pittsburgh area and now offers
the Chevrolet Low Cab Forward models to the growing commercial
market in western Pennsylvania.
Currently members of the fourth generation of Colussys are now
entering the business, leading it into the next 100 years. Tim’s three
children—Matthew, Megan and Daniel—are excited to be a part of
the longtime family business and eager to continue the traditions
as one of the nation’s oldest Chevrolet dealerships.
The team at Colussy will be hosting a 100th Anniversary party
on July 29, 2018, at the dealership from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. All are
welcome to join!
