Senior Citizens of South Fayette Township Treated to Lunch

The South Fayette Area Senior Citizens Association provides social and recreational opportunities for its members and spouses age 55 +. The purpose of the association is to attend to the social and recreational needs of its members and contribute to their happiness and well-being . That is exactly what Tricia Wood and her nutritional staff from South Fayette Township School District did when they presented the South Fayette Area Senior Citizens Association with a hearty luncheon on January 16 .
Tricia Wood , Food Service Director and Nutritional Specialist at South Fayette Township School District , is a member of the Pittsburgh Regional Food Service Directors Association ( PRFSD ), which granted a charitable donation to be used to benefit South Fayette senior citizens . PRFSD ’ s charitable donations are intended to assist small , local food banks , churches , and small community organizations as they work directly with their community families / students . Some of the organizations PRFSD has contributed to include :
• Pioneer Pantry
• Gospel Alliance Church
• Blessings in a Backpack
• Second Harvest
• South Fayette Senior Citizens Community Center
The Pittsburgh Regional Food Service Directors ( PRFSD ) is an organization of professionals committed to supporting independently operated School Food Services . Wood reached out to the president of the Senior Citizens Association , Ms . Margie Smith , to introduce herself and offer this wonderful meal . Ms . Smith was very excited and couldn ’ t wait to tell her board and members .
Wood says , “ Dr . Bille Rondinelli , Superintendent at South Fayette School District , is always encouraging the District ’ s leadership team to connect the District with the community members . It is a way that we can give back to our community members to let them know how much we care .”
There were approximately 85 guests in attendance . The meal consisted of slow roasted pot roast , mashed potatoes , gravy , corn , applesauce , rolls and dessert . A special thank you is extended to the cooks who prepared the meal and the staff who delivered the meal . Wood said she received many cards and thank you notes from the members .
In addition to providing this luncheon , each year the school hosts a “ Senior-Senior ” Night featuring a spaghetti dinner offered to the community senior citizens prior to the first home football game . Following the dinner they are invited to attend the game and introduction of the senior class athletes .
In the spring , the senior citizens are also invited to enjoy lunch prior to the spring musical hosted by Mariann Mackey . The date for the upcoming musical “ Mary Poppins ” will be Sunday afternoon on March 26 . Lunch is provided prior to the show starting at 1:00PM and will cost $ 7.00 . The musical will follow lunch and start at 2:30PM ( the musical is complimentary ). Please call Tiffany Vetter to make reservations at 412-221-4542 x8407 #.
