In accordance with the Consent Order Agreement between Shaler Township and the Allegheny County Health Department and the Federal Environmental Protection Agency , the Township is required to conduct a source reduction study and complete flow reduction projects . The goal is to reduce the infiltration of storm water into the sanitary sewer system that flows to the Allegheny County Sanitary Authority ( ALCOSAN ) collection system for treatment .

We have identified multiple projects as flow reduction candidates and are pleased to announce that three major sewer lining projects have been awarded grants through ALCOSAN ’ s Green Revitalization of Our Waterways ( GROW ) program . The total estimated project cost of these projects is over $ 800,000 . GROW grants will fund over $ 550,000 of the project costs . Shaler Township would like to thank ALCOSAN for their assistance in achieving our flow reduction goals .

Yard waste must be placed in a bio-degradable paper bag . Tree trimmings not to exceed 3-inches in diameter . Brush , limbs , twigs and shrubbery must be bundled in lengths not to exceed 4 feet in length and 1 foot total diameter .
