for silver has been submitted, and we
are working to obtain the highest gold
level,” says Klug. “SPL is also proud to
be one of the busiest libraries per capita
in Allegheny County. When compared
to 46 other libraries, SPL has the highest
circulation, highest computer usage,
highest WiFi sessions, and highest
program attendance per capita. The people
of the Quaker Valley community love their
library!”

Carolyn Toth has been the director
of the Sewickley Public Library for 20
years. She works in cooperation with a
nine-member board of directors, a staff of
approximately 50 full-time and part-time
employees, a very dedicated Friends of the
Library group and countless numbers of
volunteers.
The Friends of Sewickley Public Library
are instrumental in providing funding
to support the library’s many programs.
Each year in October, they host Savoring
Sewickley, a fundraising event that invites
local restaurants into the library to offer
samples of their cuisine. Next year will
mark 20 years of this sellout event to
benefit the library.
In addition, the library’s largest
sources of funding are provided by
the Quaker Valley School District, the
Allegheny Regional Asset District, the
Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, and
The Raymond C. and Martha S. Suckling
Fund of The Pittsburgh Foundation. The
remainder of funding comes from the
generosity of more than 700 patrons and
neighbors who make individual gifts to the
library each year.
The Sewickley Public Library recently
earned the PA Forward Bronze Star
designation from the Pennsylvania
Library Association, in acknowledgement
of the library’s commitment to being
a community center of information,
This past October, the Psychic Vincent Sisters
returned to the Sewickley Public Library to
discuss a variety of bone-chilling cases and
provide medium readings to a packed house.
Local artist Colleen Tittiger demonstrated an acrylic marbling technique for our
Coffee and Crafting program in October.
