Facebook group, we decided to form the West View Historical Society with a similar goal of sharing our local history with the world.” The Ross Township Historical Society page now has 8,511 members and the West View page has 5,673—and both continue to grow daily. The Ross Township Historical Society holds free bi-monthly meetings, where roughly 50 people attend and a guest speaker presents on a wide range of subjects. Due to the efforts of member Sandy Brown, the organization has a log cabin that was donated to the group and reassembled within Evergreen Community Park. Along with many free public events, members of the society are the go-to people for any questions regarding the history of the area, even when it comes to discovering long-lost mysteries. Most bi-monthly meetings are held in the middle of the month at the Ross Township Municipal Building and everything is completely open and free to the public. To attain society membership, a $20 donation is all that is required. Membership includes supporting the community, special member-only events and a newsletter. The group’s Facebook page is open to the public. “It is VERY important to have a historical society within the community, for if we fail to learn from our history, we are doomed to repeat it,” says Schalcosky. “I give various lectures and talks within and beyond the community, discussing the importance of our shared history and what it means to bring the memories of others back to life.
