On the night of May 4, the annual “Night at the Arts” was
held at Plum High School. Over 400 art students were given
the opportunity to exhibit their talents as well as the skills they
had gained through instruction, experimentation, and personal
research. An estimated 300 people attended the art portion of
the event to admire the artwork made by students in a variety
of art and photography classes. The students utilized a variety
of artistic techniques and technologies to develop their artwork
over the course of the school year, including but not limited to
digital and traditional photography, drawing, painting, graphic
design, sculpture, and printmaking.
During the art show, the high school Jazz Ensembles
performed their spring concert. The Jazz Ensembles rehearse
daily a large and varied repertoire of swing, blues, Latin, funk,
ballads, and rock styles, to name a few. This concert brought their
yearly performances to an end, shortly after their adjudicated
performances wherein the students took 1st place in the
Festivals of Music competition in Virginia Beach.
The evening was a great success. The event shows
the cooperative relationship between the Art and Music
departments that encourages mutual support among the
students, encouraging them to appreciate each other’s work.
