“The Happiest Place on Earth” Brought to Life at Pivik Elementary “When you wish upon a star, makes no difference who you are. Anything your heart desires will come to you.” For the past few months, students at Pivik Elementary have been humming and singing their favorite Disney tunes as they transformed their school into “The Happiest Place on Earth”. Lining the walls are projects of all kinds created by the 625 students that attend. Under the direction of Ms. Jackie Ruane, Art Teacher, students in each grade level studied art and design concepts that they would use to bring their favorite characters to life. Each class was responsible for a component of the displays that adorn the halls. Whether the students were “Under the Sea” with Ariel, Sebastian, Nemo and Dory or building a snowman with Ana and Elsa, Pivik’s students created a stunning display of their artwork, craftsmanship and design skills. Families attended the annual Art Show in April. They were greeted with silhouettes of Walt Disney and Mickey Mouse just as they would when entering Disney World. The magic began immediately upon entry. Students ushered their families through the halls to view all the dazzling displays, but particularly were proud to show off their hard work in their individual pieces. Ms. Ruane ensures that all students have a piece of artwork that contributes to the displays. Alice in Wonderland, Ratatouille, Toy Story, Snow White, Hercules and more awaited their audiences. One of the most amazing displays was from the movie Rapunzel. Rapunzel and Eugene sat in the boat while the kindergarten students’ lanterns lingered above complete with glow sticks to illuminate the stairwell. All while star-lights shone upon the entire display. Mesmerizing and beautiful! In addition to the displays, students had the opportunity to create an auction art piece that families were able to purchase through a silent auction. This year’s silent auction funds went to Make-A-Wish. Our students’ amazing art auction pieces raised a total of $1, 448.00. Ms. Ruane has enriched the lives of Pivik Elementary students and families through Art each year. This year’s Annual Art Show did just that by creating the place where dreams come true! 32 Plum
