41.6 Acres Conserved In Schuylkill Township Open Space Update Schuylkill Township is pleased to announce the closing of the township’s fifth open space conservation easement transaction.  On April 13, 2017, the township, in partnership with Chester County and the Natural Lands Trust (the township’s land conservation advisor), purchased a conservation easement on a segment of the Freedoms Foundation at Valley Forge property for $2,215,000.  The easement was funded from the township’s open space fund and a grant from the Chester County Preservation Partnership Program.  The purchase price was based on valuations by two state-certified appraisers.  Natural Lands Trust is the steward of the conservation easement. NH VT NY Memorial Fall 2016  A conservation easement is a written legal agreement between a landowner and a government entity or land trust (a private, non-profit conservation organization) that permanently restricts a property’s uses to protect its conservation values.  The landowner continues to own the eased property and pay taxes on it, but they permanently give up certain, agreed-upon rights; in this case, the land development rights.  An easement is incorporated into the deed and exists in perpetuity. The Freedoms Foundation at Valley Forge, a national non-profit organization which endeavors to promote education about American rights and responsibilities, is located at 1601 Valley Forge Road (Route 29), adjacent to the Valley Forge National Historic Park.  The 41.6 acres protected under the conservation easement are noted for their scenic beauty; being heavily wooded with a stream and over four miles of public trails.   From left to right: • Jack Stefferud, Senior Director, Land Protection – Natural Lands Trust • Wally Nunn, Chairman of the Board-Freedoms Foundation at Valley Forge • Bob Mauch, Chairman- Schuylkill Township Open Space Commission • Michael Di Yeso, President & CEO- Freedoms Foundation at Valley Forge • Jim Morrisson, Schuylkill Township Supervisor 38 Phoenixville Area
