SPONSORED CONTENT BUSINESS SPOTLIGHT When you walk into Phoenixville Pediatric Dentistry, you know this isn’t your average dental office; it’s a feast for the eyes. You’re greeted with collections of action figures and characters in little nooks and crannies, beautiful calming blues and bright green dental chairs in the cleaning areas, and a one-of-a-kind 6-foot-tall gumball machine towering over the office, but don’t expect bubble gum – it only dispenses prizes. Even the floorboards have pictures of characters on them. As an adult, it may seem slightly odd that everything in the office is child size, but for Dr. Missy Bergmaier, founder of Phoenixville Pediatric Dentistry, this is exactly what she envisioned: a dental practice dedicated only to children. “Everything in our office is dedicated to making children feel safe and comfortable,” says Dr. Bergmaier. “I want children and their parents to know that coming to the dentist can be a very positive experience. I was one of those kids who had such a fear of the dentist, and now as mom of three it really helps to shape my perspective and my dental practice.” Dr. Missy, as she’s known, designed every aspect of the practice around her passion for pediatric dentistry. The office features specialty child-size equipment; even the x-ray machine was created especially for children, having only a quarter of the radiation exposure of its adult counterpart. Much of the dental apparatus is cleverly hidden so that as children walk in, they aren’t immediately intimidated by the tanks and equipment you’d find in a traditional dental setting. For children who may require nitrous oxide sedation, the lines are concealed within the floor of the treatment room, and even the nosepieces have child-friendly scents. “As a pediatric dentist I have to think about things differently,” explains Dr. Missy. “So many of my patients come to me because they’ve developed a fear of the dentist by going to a more conventional dental office. It’s so important that every child be treated as a unique individual. You can’t judge a patient by their 8 1.800.558.0940, ext. 202 TO ADVERTISE | Phoenixville Area SPONSORED CONTENT previous dental experiences or even by a parent’s experience at home; you have to be creative and understanding. I love when a child who comes in very scared, clutching their parents’ hands, by the end doesn’t want to go home.” From her hot-pink chair, Dr. Missy is part dental provider, part entertainer— she combines her huge personality with so much motherly love and compassion that it’s no wonder children are just drawn to her. “I wouldn’t do anything that I wouldn’t want done to my kids,” she says. “I work with the family to best provide treatment; if a child needs to be restrained, I always try to involve the family first so that the child can feel most comfortable. There isn’t a child or situation too complicated that I haven’t been able to tackle. I’m such a softy, but I get the job done.” Dr. Missy understands the importance of her work—she’s been providing children’s dental services for over 15 years. At Phoenixville Pediatric Dentistry, Dr. Missy offers both preventive dentistry and restorative services. Her specially trained staff takes time to ensure that families have peace of mind and that every patient is started on the pathway to a lifetime of dental health. As your child grows, Dr. Missy and her team will continue to help him/her maintain good oral health and can provide dental sealants and custom sports mouthguards.
