Volunteers Needed for Committees Do you love East Pikeland’s parks and trail systems? Have a desire to see more community events and programs? Or maybe you want to share your knowledge about trees, birds, or your other outdoor hobbies? If so, consider joining one of our volunteer committees, see below for openings and meeting times: • Open Space Committee (2 vacancies). Fall Trail Clean Up Date Join us on November 4 from 9am to noon for the Fall Clean-Up along the French Creek Trail. Rain date is Saturday, November 11. Volunteers meet in the parking lot next to Rapps Dam Covered Bridge. Wear work clothes and heavy shoes, and bring work gloves, bow saws, shears, clippers, long handles pruners, pole saws, shovels, and/or pickaxes. If you plan to participate, please email mstewart@ eastpikeland.org. Amphitheater Update The Kimberton Park Amphitheater is still under construction! Crews will be hard at work to finish the project this fall. A ribbon cutting will be held in the spring. Look for more information in the next InCommunity newsletter. Township Yard Waste Recycling Center As an alternative to collection by the hauler, residents have the opportunity to bring leaves and yard waste to the township’s recycling yard for composting. Yard waste includes garden residue, leaves, shrubbery, tree trimmings, and similar organic material including grass clippings. Home composting is also encouraged. **There is a Burning Ban Ordinance in East Pikeland Township – Recycle your Yard Waste!** Location A Leaves & grass clippings ONLY Yard Open Daily – 7am – Dusk Location B Branches must be 6 inches or less in diameter. Brush, tree trimmings, ornamental grass, garden waste, and weeds accepted. Logs, lumber, paneling or pressure treated wood, and bamboo are NOT accepted. Yard Open Monday through Friday 7am – 3pm and Saturdays 9am – 1pm Police Department Promotions Congratulations to Susette Wilson! At the June Board of Supervisors Sgt. Wilson was promoted to Chief of Police. Chief Wilson has over 40 years of law enforcement experience, having been with the East Pikeland Police Department for 30 years, with the past 11 years as Sergeant. Chief Wilson manages a department of 8 full-time and one part-time officers. Her goals as the new Chief include ensuring that the Department meets the needs of the growing East Pikeland community; increasing manpower so the department can effectively serve the community and local businesses; and training officers in specialized fields to accommodate the needs of the township. In addition, Officer Joe Heyman was promoted to Police Sergeant by the Board of Supervisors at their public meeting in January. Sergeant Heyman’s responsibilities include acting as Platoon Commander, performing supervisory and non-supervisory duties in the department, and performing the duties of Patrol Officer when necessary.
