Rain Garden Workshop Saturday, October 21 Kimberton Park Amphitheater What is a rain garden? Rain gardens are a beautiful and easy way to reduce stormwater run-off from your home. They usually take the form of a depressed garden that uses mulch, soil, and deep-rooted native plants to capture, absorb, and infiltrate stormwater. Rain gardens work to: • Increase the amount of water that filters into the ground, which recharges local and regional aquifers • Help protect communities from flooding and drainage problems • Help protect streams and lakes from pollutants carried by urban stormwater • Enhance the beauty of yards and neighborhoods • Provide valuable habitat for birds, butterflies and many beneficial insects From: Rain Gardens: A how-to manual for homeowners. Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources. If you would like to learn more about these unique gardens and how you could implement one in your own yard please join us for a Rain Garden Implementation Workshop at the new Kimberton Park Amphitheater on Saturday, October 21 at 9am. Please RSVP to mstewart@eastpikeland.org if you plan to attend. Come ready to help us plant the new rain garden! Garden gloves and work shoes and clothes suggested. 52 Phoenixville Area
