IN Phoenixville Area Fall 2017 - Page 41

The Wall of Fame inducted legendary educator and baseball coach John “Doc” Kennedy into its membership on May 9, 2017. Doc Kennedy was born and raised in Phoenixville, and came back to teach Social Studies here in the fall of 1966. In the spring of 1979, Doc was appointed head baseball coach, and held that position until his retirement in 1998. During that time, he amassed an incredible record of 323 wins and 99 losses. Many of his players went on to play at the collegiate and professional levels. He is currently an associate scout for the Boston Red Sox. His many awards and recognitions include the National High School Coaching Award, PASD Sports Hall of Fame, Chester County Sports Hall of Fame, and the Tri-county Chapter of the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame. We can’t think of a more deserving recipient…congratulations Doc!!! The Phoenixville Public Library will be hosting its annual event, Wine, Wit & Wisdom on Thursday, November 2, 2017 at RiverCrest Golf Club & Preserve. This fundraiser is paramount for the Phoenixville Public Library to grow and expand our services for the thousands of patrons that we happily serve. This is a great night, complete with a wine tasting, a wine pull, excellent silent auction, three course sit-down dinner and a wonderful author as our guest speaker. This is a very fun, entertaining evening for all that attend and it supports a great cause! Your support of this evening will help us continue to build a strong community by the work we do, those we serve and what we strive to offer Phoenixville and the surrounding communities.
