At the high school , Caroline is on the varsity tennis team and plays clarinet for both the Mighty Indian Marching Band and the orchestra in the high school musicals . She is a National Merit Scholarship Finalist . In the fall , Caroline plans to attend college and major in biology .
Not only do Gold Award projects help communities , they also give girls important leadership skills , teaching them to seek out the work that needs doing in the world .
There are other benefits to going gold as well . Some universities and colleges offer scholarships unique to Gold Award recipients , and girls who enlist in the U . S . Armed Forces may receive advanced rank in recognition of their achievements .

2017 PETERS TOWNSHIP 5K RACE
The Peters Township 5K Race will be held on Saturday , June 17 , at 9 a . m . It is a USATF sanctioned event held at the Peters Township Rec Center and on the Arrowhead Trail . The event has always been a positive and fun environment for families , friends , co-workers and teams to compete , whether they are run / walk enthusiasts or just there to have fun . Registration will be from 7:30 to 8:45 a . m . on race day . All are welcome !
SCOUTING FOR FOOD
Scouting for Food is a nationwide food drive to assist local communities that are food insecure . During the month of April , local Boy Scouts distributed door hangers in their neighborhoods to announce the food drive . Scouts then return to pick up and deliver donations to local food banks and pantries .
A Scout promises “ to help other people at all times .” Scouting for Food is the leading service program for Boy Scouts of America and is a part of the national BSA program Good Turn for America . STUDENTS HONORED BY VFW IN ‘ VOICE OF DEMOCRACY ’ AND ‘ PATRIOT ’ S PEN ’ ESSAY AND SPEECH CONTEST
Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 764 ( McMurray ) and VFW District 24 ( Washington and Greene counties ) recently celebrated the patriotism of the region ’ s middle school and high school students during the organization ’ s annual Voice of Democracy and Patriot ’ s Pen awards ceremony .
In the Voice of Democracy , Juliette Langley , a 9th grader at Peters Township High School , earned first place in the VFW Post 764 competition , then advanced and won first place in the VFW District 24 competition . She competed at the state level and was awarded sixth place . The Voice of Democracy program allows high school students across the state to compete in an essay and speech contest based on a patriotic theme . This year ’ s theme was “ My Responsibility to America .”
For the Patriot ’ s Pen ( middle school level ), Mary Laster , an 8th grader at Peters Township Middle School , placed first in the VFW Post 764 competition , then advanced and won first place in the District 24 competition . The essay and speech theme for this year was “ The America I Believe In .”
