Each January, school districts acr oss Pennsylvania recognize a group of nine people who spend dozens of hours each month voluntarily leading our schools and making difficult decisions: The School Directors. Norwin students from both Hahntown Elementary and Norwin High School acknowledged the Board of Education for its leadership and dedication toward improving the quality of education during a special presentation at the regular Board meeting on Monday, January 15, 2018. During the monthly student presentations, Hahntown Elementary School students Maeve Schmook, Alexandra Oestreich, Mason Kugler, and Jordan Ross shared a student-made video showing Hahntown educational highlights. The video concluded with messages of gratitude to the Board from students in several classrooms at Hahntown. Norwin High School Students Allie Plassio and Ashley Svec, who serve as Student Council Board Representatives, credited the Norwin Board of Education for providing a quality public education, which can open doors of opportunity for many students. “Thank you, Norwin Board of Education, for your volunteer service to our K-12 students and the community,” Allie and Ashley said. “The job they do is necessary to ensure our schools remain a pathway to a bright and promising future. Thank you for advocating on behalf of our collective interest, and most importantly, for making the success of students your priority.” The students gave Board members Certificates of Appreciation. School directors volunteer, on average, 25 hours a month as policymakers. The Board makes difficult decisions for the betterment of our students, with members considering multi-million dollar budgets, hiring personnel, approving textbooks, reviewing curriculum, and deciding capital improvements.
