Many accomplishments have been achieved by the Murrysville Police
Department over a span of 8 years. Most importantly however, is the
partnership with our community and its trust in us. When the community
experiences a critical incident, they expect a professional response from the
police department.
In order to satisfy the community’s expectations and promote a positive
perception, the Command Staff of the Murrysville Police Department must
ensure that professional development opportunities are made available to its
members and that the development is always utilized with our philosophy of
Community Oriented Policing at the forefront.
Many of our accomplishments have occurred because of the constant and
relevant training of our officers.
Officers are trained in First Aid, CPR, AED, Narcan and other first responder
emergency medical procedures. The value of this training and its utilization
was highlighted on April 9, 2014 at the Franklin Regional High School. A 10th
grade student stabbed 20 students and a security guard inflicting serious to
critical injuries to many children. The rapid and professional response from
the command staff and patrol officers of the Murrysville Police Department
was highly instrumental in no lives lost that day. An accomplishment we are
extremely proud of and grateful for.
All Murrysville Police officers are trained in tactical patrol techniques and
firearms training. The value of this training and its utilization was highlighted
on April 20, 2016 when a deranged gunman fired at two Murrysville Police
Officers at Marathon Gas on Route 22. The tactical response of the officers
involved resulted in the lawful lethal intervention stopping the suspect from
further harm to civilians inside the establishment.
Murrysville police officers are trained in Driving Under the Influence
detection and Standardized Field Sobriety Testing. Some officers are specially
trained in Accident Reconstruction. The value of this training was highlighted
on June 23, 2012 when a fatal crash occurred on SR. 286. The efforts,
investigation and arrests for Homicide by Vehicle of 2 drivers led to a jury
conviction of both drivers in January of 2016. This was a historical precedent
for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in which 2 drivers were charged and
convicted of the death of 1 person.
Our foremost duty is the protection of life no matter what the circumstance.
On many occasions, Murrysville officers have utilized their training in the use
