CALENDAR OF EVENTS
Kennywood ’ s 100 + year history . Founded in 1898 at the terminus of the Monongahela Street Railway trolley line , the park quickly grew into a favorite summertime destination . Kennywood is unique in that it is one of the country ’ s few successful trolley parks . In 1987 , Kennywood was designated a National Historic Landmark and is known today as America ’ s Finest Traditional Amusement Park . Hahner is an avid amusement park and roller coaster enthusiast and has been a lifelong fan of Kennywood . He is a member of the National Amusement Park Historical Association and the Darkride and Funhouse Enthusiasts .
HAYDN AND HIS MUSIC 10 a . m ., Fridays , July 6- Aug . 17 ( no class July 20 )
Dr . Cleon Cornes will present an overview of the life of Franz Joseph Haydn , the Austrian composer whose influence on his contemporaries and later composers was immense . The class includes music and video .
28TH ANNUAL GARDEN TOUR 11 a . m . -4 p . m ., Sunday , July 8
This self-guided tour features nine diverse Mt . Lebanon gardens , including the library ’ s own garden , which the National Wildlife Federation certified as a Wildlife Habitat . This year Mt . Lebanon Arboretum and Mt . Lebanon Nature Conservancy will be included along with three next-door neighbors in Mainline and two neighbors on Longridge . Expert and amateur gardeners alike will find inspiration and garden beauty .
After touring the library ’ s garden , stop at one of the food trucks in the parking lot for a snack and then check out the library ’ s perennial sale for a few new plants for your yard . The plants , donated from local gardens , are appropriate for Western Pennsylvania growing conditions and offered at discount prices . Master gardeners and a Pittsburgh Rose Society Consulting Rosarian will offer free consultations .
Tickets for the Garden Tour are $ 15 per person in advance and $ 20 on the day of the tour online or at the library .

THAT WAS VAUDEVILLE 7 p . m ., Thursday , July 12
Musician Stephen Lee Rich performs music from the Vaudeville era , peppered with descriptions of what Vaudeville was and its impact on American culture . He spices the program with anecdotes about the stars of the day . Leavened with comedic storytelling and a bit of yodeling , the program is suitable for all ages . Presented by the Historical Society of Mount Lebanon .
