owe Elementary’s Emma LeFebvre sold more
than 100 pieces of art and gave the proceeds to
Cribs for Kids, which provides portable cribs
to families that can’t afford them. This is the
fourth year Emma has raised money for various
charities. Her parents and church have encouraged her to
be charitable but the project was entirely her idea.
“It’s so nice to help others and do the right thing,” she
says. “It’s so important and easy to do.”
Emma decided to give the money to Cribs for Kids
because the organization’s mission appealed to her.
“I thought it was a great way to help others,” she explains.
Emma loves art and drew about 100 pictures, which she
displayed in her front yard. At least 100 contributed to the
fundraiser. She asked for a minimum donation of $2 but
most people gave much more. One donor gave $250.
“I’m glad everybody wants to help,” Emma says.
She expected to raise $1,000 and was shocked when she
finished counting the money.
“I never in a million years thought I would get $2,000,”
Emma exclaims. “I noticed it was busy. I couldn’t rest at all.”
She has been interested in art since the first grade and
it’s one of her favorite subjects. She likes drawing but also
enjoys pottery.
“I love drawing because it’s a great way to let your
feelings out,” Emma explains. “It puts a smile on others’
faces.”
She worked at a desk in her basement and drew whatever
inspired her at the moment. It took about six months to
create enough pictures and Emma spent several hours a
week drawing. “Every piece is different,” she says.
In addition to drawing, Emma loves to dance and enjoys
cheerleading. She would like to
become an artist or a dancer.
Emma hopes her example will
inspire other children to make a
difference in the community. Even
a small action, like giving someone
a compliment, can have an impact.
“Treat others as you want to be
treated,” she advises. “It will pay
off.”
She also recently participated
in the Breath of Life Stroll, which
also benefited Cribs for Kids.
Emma hopes support will continue
to grow, although she hasn’t
picked a charity yet for next year’s
fundraiser.
Her father, Dave, and mother,
Megan, are both very proud. “She’s
picking up valuable lessons on life
and carrying through with them,”
says Dave.
