HIGH SCHOOL POETRY
CONTEST SEEKS ENTRIES
Submission deadline is Nov. 15. Poets in
grades 9 through 12 are invited to enter the
Lake Effect National High School Poetry
Contest sponsored by the B.F.A. in creative
writing degree program at Penn State Erie,
The Behrend College.
Students may enter one or two typed
poems of up to 30 lines, on any topic and in
any form. Poems must be the original work of
the student. Three prizes of $300, $200 and
$100 will be awarded.
Poems should be submitted via a Word or
PDF attachment emailed to
[email protected]. For complete

poetrycontest. The deadline to submit works
is 11:59 EST on Wednesday, Nov.15.
Lake Effect, an international journal of the
literary arts, is edited by faculty and students
at Penn State Behrend, a four-year and
graduate college of Penn State. The B.F.A.
program uses an immersive, experience-

based curriculum in which professors
work closely with students in small classes.
Coursework is devoted to canonical literature,
20th- and 21st-century literature, critical
theory, craft classes and seminars for reading
and discussing student writing.
