ASK THE EXPERT SERIES
Take advantage of the valuable health talks offered by
LifeWorks Erie. Physicians from LECOM Health will discuss
many health topics including health guidelines, managing
conditions, presenting disease and ways to boost your quality of
life. These classes are held the third Wednesday of every month
at the Millcreek Municipal Building at 6:00 p.m.
The topic for the May 17 session is Weekend Warrior Injuries.
Everyone knows exercise is important for your body, mind,
and spirit. But if you’re a weekend warrior, you might push
yourself too far, too fast and end up sidelined by a sports injury.
Dr. Patrick Leary, Director of LECOM Sports and Orthopedic
Medicine, will discuss common injuries and ways to sensibly
rebuild overall fitness, focusing on flexibility, strength, and
aerobic conditioning.

CREATIVITY MATTERS – A CREATIVE AGING PROGRAM
In December 2016, LifeWorks Erie
received a grant from the Pennsylvania
Department of Aging to expand and
improve our Creativity Matters program.
The primary goal of this program is
to improve the health and wellness
of older adults in the Erie region. Our
Creativity Matters Program offers various
art mediums and techniques taught by
professional artists.
Our second residency, “Creating
Works of Art,” takes place Fridays, June
9 through September 1, from 9:00 –
11:00 a.m. This painting course will be
led by local artists Tom Ferraro and Ed
Grout. Participants will learn techniques
to create representational and abstract
paintings through compositions such
12 Millcreek
as still lifes, landscapes and figures.
Participants will have the opportunity
to transform their ideas into personal
visual statements. The instructors will
foster the development of observational
skills, problem solving techniques and
creative ideas. References to art history
and concepts of aesthetics will be
discussed. The course is designed for
students of all skill levels, from beginners
to accomplished painters.
Tom Ferraro is a professional artist
and co-founder of the Looking Glass
Art Project, a community based public
art program that focuses on the lives
and stories of its participants. Tom has
exhibited extensively in one and two
person shows, both regionally and
nationally shows, with exhibitions at the
Erie Art Museum, the Carnegie Museum
of Art in Pittsburgh and various galleries
in New York City.
Award-winning mosaic artist Edward
Grout has been a glass artist for more
than 24 years. During that time, he has
amassed a wealth of original work and
