Letter from
the Supervisors
Hopefully by the time you receive this copy of IN Millcreek Magazine the snow has stopped
and we are finally into spring weather. We don’t need to tell you the months of November,
December and January were the worst this region has seen. Tornadoes, record snowfalls and
severe thunderstorms; what’s going on? With that in mind, the Supervisors had made plans well
in advance to relocate and expand the Emergency Operations Center to the second floor of the
Township Building. Be sure to read the cover story article written by Matt Exley, the Township
Emergency Management Director about the move and the vital functions of the department.
The year 2018 brings about some changes to
Millcreek Township with the retirement of long time
Supervisor Brian McGrath and Jim Bock entering
as a new Supervisor. Also, in 2017 Millcreek saw
some veteran employees retire and new employees
become part of the team. In our continuing program
with the Millcreek School District, we are pleased to
announce two new bright young individuals serving
as Student Ambassadors to the Board of Supervisors.
Make it a point to read their bios. You will be
impressed as we are.
Looking to the change of seasons, don’t forget the reopening of the Millfair Compost
Recycling Center and the upcoming annual special collections. Dates for those events are found
in this edition.
For those that may think Millcreek Township works solely by itself on some projects may be
pleased to read about the benefits of intergovernmental cooperation. Great article about how a
little working together can go a long way in regards to providing municipal services.
Last but not least, read the Embrace Millcreek update; the Township Comprehensive Plan.
There are many good things for Millcreek expected to result from that project.

Welcome New Student Ambassadors
This year, two McDowell High School students
are serving as student ambassadors to the Millcreek
Township Supervisory Board.
Aaron Boyd is a senior at McDowell High School. He
has devoted his time to the Lead and Seed Program of
which he is currently serving as president. He is also a
member of the McDowell Baseball Team, Mock Trial,
Academic Challenge, National Honor Society, and
the McDowell Honors College. He is a participant in
Student Government and currently holds office as the
Aaron Boyd and Lilly Hanko
President of the Senior Class.
Lilly Hanko is currently a senior at McDowell High
School. She has participated in Varsity Soccer for four years and is also involved with the
Speech and Debate Team, Mock Trial, National Honor Society, Girls’ Athletic Club, and DECA
Club. She serves as Co-President of the McDowell Vox Literary Magazine and is a member of
the McDowell Honors College student executive board.
During each Supervisors’ Meeting, the Student Ambassadors are given the chance to
comment on agenda items and report current activities happening at McDowell. Through
their participation in board meetings, other McDowell students have the opportunity
to discover what is going on in the Township, and meeting attendees can learn about
what is happening at the high school. Through this program, Aaron and Lilly are afforded
the opportunity to learn about the workings of a local government from a very unique
perspective. They are enjoying their experience and very appreciative of this opportunity.
