MAYOR’S
The triathlon took participants through the McKeesport Area
High School swimming pool, the McKeesport leg of the Great
Allegheny Passage and Renziehausen Park – raising funds for
the McKeesport Trail Commission and the Kiwanis Club of
McKeesport/White Oak, two volunteer organizations that do their
part to benefit the McKeesport community.
Again, I have the honor and privilege of seeing firsthand what
volunteers do in this city. The list goes on and on, and we see it
at each and every one of our events. Our volunteers give their
time and effort to make sure these events happen and that they
become assets in our community.
Readers also have a chance to read about four individuals who
have gone above and beyond to make things happen in our
community. As always, our Living the Message awardees embrace
McKeesport’s message of Respect, Dignity, Hope, and Love.
Tony Riggs is keeping his little corner of McKeesport clean by
maintaining not only his own property, but parcels owned by
elderly neighbors and abandoned lots as well; Ty-Meer Brown is
building character among McKeesport Area High School students
and athletes through day-to-day interactions and an up-and-
coming mentoring program; Linda Brewster is giving a new life
to recreation and development in McKeesport with constant
improvements to the McKeesport trail system and local portions
of the Great Allegheny Passage; and Brian Evans is a McKeesport
parent who is sharing his love of athletics with future generations.
People like these awardees make our community a unique
place with lots to offer in terms of recreation, productivity, and
spirituality. If reading about these individuals makes you think of
someone who is deserving of a Living the Message Award, please
contact my office at 412-675-5020, ext. 605.
As we look back on all this summer had to offer, I want to wish
everyone a safe and joyful transition into the school year. This
fall, we will continue to invite families out for more fun, as we are
planning an instructional tennis clinic, a Halloween parade, and
many more activities in weeks to come
