Seniors Selected for College Cheerleading Squads

Two Mars Area High School seniors were selected for the cheerleading squads at the college level .
Senior Madison Caruso , 18 , daughter of Douglas and Katherine Caruso of Valencia , earned a spot on the Boilermakers Cheerleading Squad at Purdue University ( West Lafayette , IN ), where she plans a major in communications .
Caruso , a captain and three-year member of Mars Area High School Varsity Cheerleading Squad , was also captain of the Ninth Grade Cheerleading Squad in her freshman
Madison Caruso year . She was also a member of the JV and Middle School cheerleading squads .
At Mars Area High School , Caruso was also a member of the Girls Varsity Swimming & Diving Team during her freshman , sophomore and junior years ; is a three-year member of Class Council and Interact Club ; and is an office runner .
In the community , she coaches for Mars Youth Cheerleading and works at Treesdale Country Club .
Senior Emily McMaster , 17 , daughter of Scott and Sheri McMaster of Mars , earned a spot on the Golden Eagles Cheerleading Squad at Clarion University of Pennsylvania ( Clarion , PA ), where she plans to major in early childhood education / special education .
McMaster , a member of Mars Area High School JV Cheerleading Squad , was a member of the Varsity Cheerleading Squad in her freshman year . She has participated
Emily McMaster in cheerleading for 12 years .
At Mars Area High School , she serves as Class Council secretary and is a member of National Honor Society . In the community , she serves as a youth group volunteer at St . Peter ’ s Reformed Church and she works at Learning Express Toys .

Seniors to Continue Baseball Careers in College cKeesport AREA

Two members of Mars Area High School Boys Varsity Baseball Team will continue their baseball careers at the college level .
Senior Dylan Rotz , 18 , son of Michael and Joann Rotz of Mars , signed a letter of intent to join the Battlers Men ’ s Baseball Team at Alderson Broaddus University ( Philippi , WV ).
A captain and four-year member of the Boys Varsity Baseball Team , Rotz has a . 462 batting average , 1.62 earned run average of , 9 strikeouts , and a 1.000 fielding percentage .
At Mars Area High School , Rotz was also a member of the Boys Varsity Golf Team during his freshman , sophomore and junior years . He has also played for Dirtbags Baseball Club and New Brighton Legion Baseball .
Rotz plans to major in exercise science / biology at Alderson Broaddus University .
Senior Brandon Wetherholt , 18 , son of Michael and Holly Wetherholt of Gibsonia , signed a letter of intent to join the Golden Knights Men ’ s Baseball Team at Gannon University ( Erie , PA .).
A captain and four-year member of the Boys Varsity Baseball Team , Wetherholt holds a . 300 batting average , . 375 on-base percentage , 15 hits , 4 RBIs and 15 runs . In 2016 , Wetherholt

Brandon Wetherholt ( L ) and Dylan Rotz ( R ) was selected to represent the Western Region in baseball at the Pennsylvania State Keystone Games . He also plays for the Allegheny Tigers Baseball Club and Mars Legion Baseball .
At Mars Area High School , Wetherholt is a member of FBLA ( Future Business Leaders of America ). He is also a member of the National Society of High School Scholars , the Boys & Girls Club of Pittsburgh , and St . Kilian ’ s Parish .
Wetherholt has been accepted into the Dahlkemper School of Business at Gannon University , where he plans to major in finance .
In 2016 , Mars Area High School Boys Varsity Baseball Team advanced to the first round of the PIAA Class AAA Boys Varsity Baseball Championships after taking third place in the WPIAL Class AAA Boys Varsity Baseball Third Place Consolation Final . The Fightin ’ Planets ended the 2016 regular season with an overall record of 12-5 and 10-2 in section play , earning the Section 5-AAA title .
