WHAT’S NEWS IN KEYSTONE OAKS LOCAL EDUCATOR WINS MRS. PA AMERICA 2018, HEADS TO MRS. AMERICA PAGEANT In May, Sandahl Taylor was crowned Mrs. Pennsylvania America 2018 in front of a sold-out crowd in Philadelphia. She touts the platform “Heart Health Awareness” and will compete at the national Mrs. America pageant in August. As a military spouse, Taylor gives back to the military community by providing complimentary haircuts through the Veterans Leadership Program. Married in 2015 to Staff Sergeant Kenneth Taylor, a U.S. Army veteran, with two children, she has also volunteered for events of the American Heart Association, raising awareness and funds to help support her platform. Taylor graduated from the South Hills Beauty Academy in Dormont with a license in cosmetology. She is currently an academy educator specializing in Cosmetology, Esthetics, and Nail Technology. The Mrs. Pennsylvania America pageant, produced by An Officer and Gentlewoman LLC, was held at the University of the Arts in the heart of downtown Philadelphia. STUDENTS WIN SCHOLARSHIPS Mark Mitchell of Seton LaSalle High School was one of the recipients of a $1,000 scholarship as part of the Comcast NBCUniversal annual Leaders and Achievers Scholarship Program. In total, Comcast will award $205,000 in Leaders & Achievers scholarships to 187 high school seniors across the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania for the 2018-19 school year. The Comcast Leaders and Achievers Scholarship Program provides scholarships to students who strive to achieve their full potential, who are catalysts for positive change in their communities, who are involved in their schools, and who serve as models for their fellow students. The philosophy behind the program is to give young people every opportunity to prepare for the future and to engage them in their communities. Tues., Aug. 21, 6:30 p.m. SOUTH WEST MEALS ON WHEELS SERVES DORMONT, GREEN TREE South West Meals on Wheels provides nutritious meals to seniors and disabled people in Dormont and Green Tree who otherwise wouldn’t have access to proper nutrition. Volunteers deliver meals Monday through Friday between the hours of 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. They offer a sacked lunch and hot meals. Once a week you’ll also receive a quart of milk, and the organization can accommodate most food requests. Most of the food is prepared from the icmags.com Coding at the Library: This family program will be an easy introduction to various coding programs including Scratch, Python, Ozobots, BeeBots, and more!! Registration for this program is required to make sure we have enough materials on hand. Parents are encouraged to attend this program with their children to help them!
