FUNDRAISER
Greybrooke Garden Club will hold a
garage sale fundraiser on Saturday, Oct. 7,
from 8 a.m. to noon at Parkwood United
Presbyterian Church, located at 4289 Mt.
Royal Boulevard in Allison Park. Proceeds
help support the club’s annual donations to
worthy community and conservation
organizations. Greybrooke Garden Club
members reside in various areas of the North
Hills. Regular meetings are held the second
Wednesday of each month at Parkwood U. P.
Church, and guests are welcome at all
meetings.

CARE FUND EVENT
Please join Howard Hanna in supporting
the Children’s Free Care Fund. This worthy
cause provides medical care to all children,
regardless of insurance or the family’s
ability to pay. This year marks the 29th year
of Howard Hanna Real Estate Services’
company-wide “Choo Choo Chow Chow”
fundraising campaign. As a company, it has
donated more than $14 million to local
children’s hospitals.

The museum comes alive with re-enactors,
demonstrators, craftspeople, music, food and
children’s activities. Come to the Hydref and
step back in time!

Lantern Tours at the Museum
A quiet, family oriented, historical
alternative to Halloween. Learn about—and
possibly catch a glimpse of—the Deacon,
the museum’s resident, benevolent ghost.

The Depreciation Lands Museum is a living
museum located at 4743 S. Pioneer Road
in Allison Park. The museum is open every
Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. The Million Hearts campaign was launched
in 2012 by the U.S. Department of Health and
Human Services with the goal of preventing
one million heart attacks and strokes by 2017.
As part of this effort to prevent
cardiovascular disease, the Y-USA designed
a program to reduce participants’ blood
pressure based on the successful “Check It,
Change It” research study. The YMCA’s Blood
Pressure Self-Monitoring program supports
adults with high blood pressure in developing
the habit of self-monitoring blood pressure
and understanding the role nutrition plays in
pressure management through personalized
support.
The BPSM evidence-based program is a
four-month program designed to help adults
with high blood pressure develop the habit of
routine blood pressure monitoring.
The goals of the program are:
1. Reduce blood pressure.
2. Develop new skills for managing blood
pressure.
3. Gain the ability to identify and control
triggers that raise blood pressure.
4. Increase confidence in adopting
healthier eating habits.
Heart Healthy ambassadors from the
YMCA will take participants’ blood pressure
during face-to-face meetings and will train
participants to take their own blood pressure
accurately using the American Heart
Association ABCD protocol.
In addition, the YMCA will offer a
nutrition education seminar each month.
