WHAT ’ S NEWS IN GREENSBURG SALEM
STAGE RIGHT LAUNCHES ITS 19TH SEASON WITH A TALE AS OLD AS TIME
As Stage Right opened its 19th season there was a full-circle moment when J . Alex Noble and Rachael Tresco took the stage at The Palace Theatre in Greensburg in “ Beauty and the Beast .”
Noble of Pittsburgh and Tresco of Plum were both students at the performing arts school / theater company in the first years of its existence .
Noble , who played the Beast , has been working as a professional actor for about 10 years and has been a member of the Actors Equity Association for five years . He was 14 when he started at Stage Right and believes that at the time he was the only male student .
“ Rachael and I grew up doing shows at Stage Right together . We used to play opposite each other with some regularity . My senior year at Stage Right she was the Rusty to my Willard in ‘ Footloose .’ It ’ s been a real treat getting to work with someone I ’ ve known for so many years ,” Noble says .
Tresco took on the role of Belle . She has been acting in the area for over a decade , performing with professional companies including Stage Right for about 15 years . She recalls starting at Stage Right when she was 11 and being given several opportunities to play roles in the professional company as a student .
“ Alex and I were students together and have been good friends for a long time . We ’ ve done so many shows over the years ( this is actually our third time doing “ Beauty and the Beast ” together ), but haven ’ t played opposite
Stage Right opened its 19th professional season with a production of “ Beauty and the Beast ” at The Palace Theatre in Greensburg Sept . 22-24 . So this is a fun opportunity to work together as adults ,” Tresco says .
Tresco and Noble were also joined on stage by several other Stage Right graduates as well as current students , in addition to their former instructors and now colleagues Anthony Marino ( who played Cogsworth ) and his wife Renata Marino ( who played Mrs . Potts ). Both Marinos are members of Actors Equity and Renata was the production ’ s choreographer while Anthony is Stage Right ’ s artistic director as well as the show ’ s director .
“ This production of ‘ Beauty and the Beast ,’ 10 years after our first production of this show , strikes me as to what a perfect demonstration of our mission it is : student cast members ages 6 through 18 working alongside 10 grads of Stage Right , three Equity actors and a community of dedicated performers who love theatre and Stage Right . It creates an atmosphere of familiarity and joy that you can ’ t find anyplace else ,” Anthony says .
Stage Right ’ s 2017 / 18 Professional Season is sponsored by The Donald D . Mateer Foundation , Felice and Associates and Prantl ’ s .
