DISTRICT 9980 a vital , albeit primitive , milestone to our connectivity today , the Internet , websites , Facebook , et technological al , will no doubt prove to be the same in thousands of years to come .
This is the reality of modern communication – our connection to the world in this era . To merely survive , we need to embrace today ’ s technology ; to thrive , we must employ it consistently , persistently , confidently and smartly , constantly adapting along with progress . Technology must become part of our organisational DNA .
year the Rotary Foundation – our financial engine room – turns 100 , and I really wanted to commemorate that massive milestone with something lasting .
And , so , the idea of a district cookbook was born . It ’ ll be filled with a recipe from each of the district ’ s clubs , a dish that has some special Rotary connection .
The aim is glossy , coffee table-style spectacular – complete with stunning scenic shots , and a delicious journey through District 9980 .
Hence , my delight at 23 clubs signing up for ClubRunner , and the excitement at watching each of our clubs ’ sites go live and start to evolve . Believe me , I know this is not just a flick of a switch . I led the local team that brought in ClubRunner , and oversaw the intense and diverse work that went into personalising the platform for our district . That ’ s why I ’ m so impressed with what the clubs are rolling out , and the effort that ’ s evident .
Those of you who have heard me speak in recent months will know I ’ m passionate about progress , but equally committed to supporting clubs evolve , grow and rise to the many challenges we face . As part of that backing , and to help you even further with ClubRunner and promotion in general , we have our communications , media and website training for clubs scheduled for September . It ’ s free ! Your club can register here .
So , welcome to the first of the 2016- 17 Rotary year ’ s magazines , In Gear . I ’ m delighted with how it ’ s come together , and many , many thanks to all of you who have given so freely of your time to provide information , background and articles .
Getting more of Rotary ’ s amazing stories out there is one of my major aims for the year , so my heartfelt gratitude to everyone who ’ s contributed . A special thanks to public image chair Vicki Moseley , who has played star co-ordinator , and , among other things , is responsible for the sensational design and layout .
Clayton and I are very much looking forward to catching up with you all soon at the club visits .
