Local fare
to the fore
District 9980 governor Janice Hughes and
husband, former chef, Clayton Hope, are ardent
foodies through and through.
So, it’s no surprise showcasing gastronomic
delights from in and around Wanaka features
high on the menu for the upcoming conference.
Festivities open on the Friday night, with a
novel presentation by Wanaka-based television
chef Angelo Georgalli, who will share his story,
while cooking up a storm using local wild game.
Conference-goers will then be treated to a
gourmet selection of dishes from six stalls,
serving up the latest in street food trends from
around the world.
“That’s our way of tipping our hat to the fact
Rotary is a remarkable organisation with an
extraordinary reach,” Clayton says.
“Our aim is to transport everyone, through
food, to all corners of the globe and recognise
the impact Rotary has locally, nationally and
internationally.”
Saturday night’s ‘Winter Wonderland’ dinner
promises a celebration of local cuisine, with
the likes of Wild Red Tussock Venison, served
with juniper berries in a shiraz reduction, and
succulent free-range chicken, with a herb and
pancetta stuffing.

“Together with the great local wines, I think
the delicious fare on offer is going to put
taste buds in overdrive.”
As well as a bespoke conference
cocktail by Cardrona Distillery, there
is another very special tipple on
offer.
“I can highly recommend DG Janice’s
very own pinot noir, made from
lovely Wanaka-grown grapes.”
