Brian Jewart, MD, a Vitreo- retinal diabetic retinopathy surgeon, received his undergraduate education at the University of Maryland and his medical degree at the University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Jewart underwent his fellowship training at the prestigious Charles Retina Institute in Memphis , TN. In addition, he spent almost a decade in the United States Air Force, achieving Captain’s rank. John Nairn, MD, cataract and glaucoma specialist, is the Director of the Glaucoma Service at AIO. He specializes in the latest and most advanced medical, laser, and surgical treatment of glaucoma and cataracts. Dr. Nairn received his medical degree as well as his master’s degree from Georgetown University. He completed his fellowship training in glaucoma and anterior segment surgery at Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary of Harvard Medical School. Lisa Cibik, MD, FACS, serves as Director of Cataract Services at AIO. Dr. Cibik conducted her undergraduate studies at the Johns Hopkins University, and received her medical degree at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. Dr. Cibik is recognized as one of the most experienced cataract surgeons in the United States. She was among the first surgeons in the country to use multifocal intraocular lenses and performed the first LenSx® laser cataract procedure in Western Pennsylvania. Miguel Busquets, MD, FACS, a Vitreo- retinal surgeon, received his undergraduate degree from Harvard University, where he graduated magna cum laude, and received his medical degree from Duke University School of Medicine. During his training he received the Rosenbaum Research Award for best ophthalmological research by a resident, as well as the Retina Research Foundation Joseph M. and Eula C. Lawrence Grant, which was awarded by the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO).
