COLLIER ’ S WARD HOME RECEIVES $ 20,000 GRANT FOR HEALTH AND WELL- BEING PROGRAM FOR AT- RISK FOSTER YOUTH
Ward Home , Inc . has received a $ 20,000 multiyear grant from the Allegheny County Medical Society Foundation to improve the health of atrisk foster teens and young adults served by the 112-year-old human service agency .
Funding from the grant will go toward Ward Home ’ s Health and Well-Being Enhancement Program , which teaches at-risk foster teens and young adults the importance and value of living a healthy lifestyle , including nutritious cooking and the importance of physical exercise .
Through the Health and Well-Being Enhancement Program , foster teens learn that eating healthier foods and achieving physical fitness goals can become a way of life , allowing them to go on to be healthy adults .
“ Thanks to the support of the Allegheny County Medical Society Foundation , our foster teens are learning that healthy living can be fun ,” said Ward Home Executive Director Bill Wolfe , “ and also a better way of life for them and their future family .”

Consecrated Dust : A Novel of the Civil War North is a work of historical fiction illustrating what life was like in Pittsburgh , in 1862 and bringing to light the real- life catastrophe that took place on September 17th at the Allegheny Arsenal , where 78 girls perished in an explosion while they were hard at work rolling bullet cartridges for the Union Army .
5th Annual Chuck Falletta Memorial Dog Walk Saturday , Oct . 7 , 10 a . m .
The Bridgeville Public Library is excited to once again host the Chuck Falletta Memorial Dog Walk honoring the life of Chartiers Valley High School graduate Chuck Falletta , a lifelong animal advocate and book lover . This fun , family event features raffles , face paint , and , of course , DOGS ! Beginning at the library , attendees are encouraged to complete a one-mile loop through Bridgeville with their four-legged friend . Registration is $ 5 per dog with all proceeds benefiting the Bridgeville Public Library . Please contact the library for additional information .
