INEVENTS COMMUNITY MAKES ‘CELEBRATE THE SOUTH HILLS WITH SHIM’ HUGE SUCCESS On Wednesday, May 17, 370 community members gathered for South Hills Interfaith Movement’s (SHIM) annual Celebrate the South Hills with SHIM event. The event served as a celebration of community, philanthropy and volunteerism. SHIM was proud to honor Suzy and Jim Broadhurst of Eat’n Park Hospitality Group as this year’s South Hills Champions. The evening included dinner, a reception, a presentation from SHIM, and bidding opportunities to benefit the organization’s beneficiaries and work in the South Hills. The South Hills nonprofit organization raised an event record-breaking $145,688 to help benefit community members in need. New to this year’s event, fifteen remarkable teenagers shared their stories of culture and identity in a powerful exhibit: ‘Two Cultures, One Me.’ The project, funded by The Sprout Fund’s 100 Days of US project, serves to bring a voice to local refugee teens involved with SHIM’s Youth Mentoring Program who worked with professional journalist, Stephanie Hacke to craft their stories and took photos with Pittsburgh photographer, Terry Clark. The teens were in attendance at the event and shared their stories with guests during the reception. SHIM would like to thank everyone who attended and contributed to the event, and the Broadhursts for their work to benefit the community. Jim Guffey, executive director, SHIM; Jim Broadhurst, Chairman, Eat’n Park Hospitality Group; Suzy Broadhurst, Eat’n Park Hospitality Group; and John Schrott, President, IKM, Inc. joined together at SHIM’s annual Celebrate the South Hills with SHIM event, where the Broadhursts were honored as South Hills Champions. Cris Winter of WISH 99.7 was the Master of Ceremonies at Celebrate the South Hills with SHIM. She chatted with Tulasha of SHIM’s Youth Mentoring Program about the Two Cultures, One Me project.
