For the recycling bins, we decided to keep
the core design of the existing ones with
minor enhancement.
First of all, we replaced the outer surface
with PVC and powder coated steel so
waste throwers can see what’s inside
and know instantly where to put their
waste as from the interview a lot of
people especially the elderly ones are not
familiar with the current color code. The
transparent design also aims to create an
emotional effect to encourage people to
recycle their waste.
Secondly, instead of the same opening for
all 3 kinds of recycle waste (paper, metal,
plastic), we designed different shapes
of each opening for each type of waste.
Rectangle for paper, circle for metal and
square for plastic. The mouth will also be
able to close by itself to keep waste in safe
condition.
Lastly, we replaced the black plastic bag
with just a stainless steel wire basket as
the inner container. This option is more
durable as well as more environmental
friendly.
