DOG OWNER
“If you want to turn environmental friendly
actions into habit, you need to create a
convenient environment for people to start
doing that everyday. You can’t expect people
to actively look for information and bins”
“Strict policy enforcement helps learning -
There was once I threw recycable garbage
into the wrong bin and no one collected it, the
stinky garbage then stayed there for another
week, I‘d never throw it carelessly again”

KNOWLEDGE
• Has habit of recycling
• Learnt and became aware of the issue when he lived/ travelled in
foreign countries e.g. Korea, Japan, UK
• Whole family would remind and influence each other, especially
his wife
• Prefers icon more than color coding, colors are not universal
enough for him to distinguish which bin for which
• He is aware of government policy on new rubbish bin, mainly gets
information from TV and news
ACTION
Garbage disposal
• He rarely uses the regular street garbage bins
Recycling
• Keeps newspaper, paper, bottle, clothing at home for recycling
• Mainly use recycling bins at housing estate
• For newspaper, he gives it to an old newspaper collector every
3-4 days to help him earn a living
• Rarely uses recycling bins on the street, he will instead store
his garbage in his bag and dispose at the recycling bins at his
housing estate
THINKING & FEELING
• Inspired from real life examples from Japan, Korea and United
Kingdom during his travels
• His wife, she will remind him to wash the bottles before bringing
to recycling bins
• He thinks the number of dog faeces bins are not sufficient in HK.
In the walkway where he walks his dog, there is only 1 dog faeces
bin and it’s always full
• The design and size of the dog faeces bins are not user friendly
