A Letter from the Co-Chairs of the Board of Directors , Bruce Fernie and Bryan Glinton
Over the past year , the Board of Directors and Governors , along with our administrative team , volunteers , architects and construction professionals , has been hard at work finalising and implementing the master plan for the development of the facilities of Lyford Cay International School ( LCIS ). For several years now , we have examined our strengths as a school and areas where our programmes need to grow . We created a Strategic Vision to drive our growth over the next 5-6 years and are delighted that we are now in full-swing with the preparations to build some tremendous new facilities that will allow that vision to be fully implemented .
Many improvements , supported by the Annual Fund , have been taking place on our current campus for the past two years . We redesigned hardscape and landscape elements of the campus to improve aesthetics and the usability of outdoor spaces . We renovated the ELC , creating a brand new classroom and improving building layout , roofs and lighting . We built a new kitchen facility to improve the quality of our food services on campus , one that will soon open and eventually connect seamlessly to the Lower School ’ s new multi-purpose space . We have done so much with your support so far .
We are over one-third of the way towards our first fundraising goal of $ 30 million . We have raised over $ 11 million for these projects to date . The upcoming facilities that will be funded when we complete Phase One of fundraising include : the administrative and academic Gateway Building , the adjacent classroom building and the maintenance facility on the Upper School campus , together with the new Multi- Purpose Building on the current campus .
been cleared . Architects Cooper Robertson near completion of the schematic drawing phase and continue to partner with project managers from Construction Cost Engineering and local architects Bruce LaFleur and Associates . We are engaging engineers and surveyors to prepare the land for construction drawings and eventual groundbreaking .
Groundbreaking will occur once we have commitments for the balance of funds needed for Phase One . Once construction begins , we will be about 18 months away from opening . Reaching our fundraising goal is the most important factor in determining the opening date of the Upper School campus . It will take the timely and significant support of parents and community members to achieve the soonest possible move-in date .
So thank you , on behalf of the Board of Directors and Governors , to all of you who are playing a role in this major undertaking . We are grateful for your support and excited for the progress you are helping us to make on a daily basis .
We continue to make progress towards the soonest possible opening of these with both fundraising and construction planning . The land for Phase One of the Upper School site has
