THE UNITED NATIONS
T
he United Nations is an international organization founded after
the Second World War by 51 countries in an attempt to preserve
international peace and security, fostering friendly relationships between
states, promoting social progress and establishing better living standards
and human rights.
T
he United Nations is subdivided
into
multiple
branches
or
committees that have a particular
focus and may deal with issues in a
specific approach. Each committee
has its own list of member states, with
interchangeable positions that are
renewed after specific periods. The
General Assembly serves as a stage
of debate for all member states, in many cases the matters that are dealt
with in the General Assembly are previously discussed in the specialized
committees. The Security Council is focused on the preservation of
international peace, it may resort to UN-Sanction forces to maintain peace.
The other main committees are Disarmament and International Security,
Economic and Financial, Social - Humanitarian and Cultural, Special
Political, Administrative and Budgetary, and Legal (ICJ).

n charge of leading the United Nations is the Secretariat.
It is an international bureaucracy for the UN, headed by
the Secretary General, Ban Ki Moon, who holds a five
year term with possible reelection. The Secretariat is in
charge of administration and research when it comes to
the global issues that are dealt with.
