Noah Way
Padre Richard Smith’s first column
for the imjin
Greetings from your new padre, it’s a
pleasure to join you in Innsworth – and
I look forward to meeting you all over
the course of the next few months.
Moving to a new position is always a
challenge and one many of you will
know very well, I’m sure it is even more
demanding when you are moving
countries and trying to find your way
in a different culture.
Early in my time here I had the
occasion to visit the Chaplain General
in the Army HQ at Andover. He is the
senior chaplain in our Army and I was
seeking his advice on guidance about
how to best support you. As I booked
in at the gate and received my car
pass I was delighted to see that the
clerk misunderstood where I’d come
from and I’d been labelled chaplain to
the ‘ARK’ (as opposed to the ‘ARRC’ as
it should be). Noah would have been
so pleased.
So perhaps that is how we should
consider ourselves, as voyagers on
the ARK. Gathered from far and wide
and travelling together to stay safe. It
is a voyage of discovery and although
I’m sure the Commander has a plan
we are also at the mercy of factors
not yet known. Like with Noah we can
be assured that while we travel God
watches over us, guides our path and
leads us to a destination prepared in
advance.
As we travel along, if I can help you in
any way, then please let me know.
Every blessing,
Padre Richard
