Coffee Mornings Coffee mornings are usually held once a month from 10am to midday in the Officers’ Mess. They are open to all ranks, children are welcome and booking is not required. Each month, a different nation hosts the coffee morning so you can have a taste of cookies and cakes that you may have not seen or tasted before. It is very informal and always delicious. Please come along and you will always be welcome! COFFEE MORNING UPCOMING EVENTS For information on future coffee mornings please refer to our Facebook page – ARRC International Club Turkish Coffee Morning 15th May 18 As the weather hints that a beautiful and warm summer is approaching, we had the chance to show the harmonious warmth of Turkish hospitality to our fabulous guests who attended the coffee morning. We hope everybody enjoyed the Turkish coffee morning as much as we did. When it comes to Turkish cuisine there are so many options to choose from, and we tried our best to reflect this to everybody who attended the coffee morning. We served a selection of pastries, cakes, desserts, biscuits and drinks including tea brewed in the Turkish style, and of course, Turkish Coffee. The result was better than expected with everybody sharing cultural stories and making new friends across many nationalities. Thank you to everybody who supported the morning and shared a few good hours with us. Also, a big thank you goes to the Mess Staff for everything they did to make our morning such a wonderful success. Zümrüt Türen Romanian Coffee Morning 17th April 18 Croatian Coffee Morning 13th June 18 It was with great pleasure and honour that I was able to organise the first Romanian coffee morning here at Imjin Barracks. With the summer at our doorstep, I had the honour and the pleasure of hosting the last coffee morning before the summer holidays. I could not think of a better way to say a big “THANK YOU!” to all the Participating Nations that welcomed the first Romanian contingent here in the ARRC last year. Since we arrived, we have really felt the joy of becoming part of the wider ARRC family and, because of this; a ‘sweet reward’ seemed to be the proper way to celebrate with my new neighbours and friends. This was also the perfect opportunity to meet the rest of the families and enjoy some quality time together. Even though this event is named as a ‘coffee morning’ and one would expect to have breakfast and coffee, I happily found out that what is served is usually traditional sweets and cakes from the country that the organiser comes from. Since one of my hobbies is baking, I was naturally very excited and I decided to bake and cook my favourite traditional sweets and cakes. These included Crullers pastry with cheese and raisins (Brânzoaice), Snow White cake (Albă ca Zăpada), Nut cake (Prăjitură cu nuci) or cake with chocolate. I wish to thank all the spouses who came and made this morning all the more special! I hope you really enjoyed the atmosphere, the company and the cakes that were prepared, to accompany your teas and coffees! It is hard to believe that just in a few weeks we’ll be all going our separate ways. Some will just be taking a well-deserved break and enjoying the summer with their families, before returning to our ‘second home’ here in the Imjin community. The others will be packing their boxes to continue their lives somewhere new and exciting. This lovely morning proved to be another great moment here at Innsworth, where we all enjoyed talking with friends and having the opportunity to meet the new spouses who have just arrived.Through this Romanian coffee morning, I tried to share with you all, a small bit of my culture and I hope that everyone enjoyed it! I’m sure new adventures wait around the corner wherever you may find yourselves in the future. I wish all the best to you and your families and hope to see you again someday. Who knows, maybe it’ll be somewhere in my beautiful Croatia..? Thank you very much for all your support! With best wishes, Camelia Ionescu Željka Belas theIMJIN SUMMER 2018 13
