Barren River Lake State Park Barren River Lake State Resort Park is one of the area’s most popular attractions offering a wide variety of activities for the family. From viewing Sandhill Cranes as they migrate through the winter months, or enjoying a day on the water via the resort’s expansive marina, the park is noted for its outdoor attractions and opportunities. Barren River Lake State Resort Park, which is at 1149 State Park Road in Lucas, offers lodging, camping and fishing, as well as an 18-hole golf course, hiking trails and picnic areas. The park features a marina with 100 open and 40 covered slips. Fishing is a popular activity at the park, as bass, crappie and catfish fill the waters of the 10,000-acre Barren River Lake. The campground includes 99 sites with options for utility hookups, sewer hookups and wooden decks at some of the sites. There’s also horseback riding, orienteering and an outdoor pool for swimming at Barren River Lake State Resort Park. The park was established in 1965, as the lake was created in 1960 following the construction of a dam. The Louie B. Nunn State Lodge, which overlooks Barren River Lake, opened in 1971. Barren River Lake State Resort Park also hosts the Glasgow Highland Games during the first weekend of June each year. For more information, call 270-646-2151.
