October 2015 • Volume 41, Number 12 • www.illinoisentertainer.com COVER STORY: 7TH HEAVEN Technically speaking, this may be the 30th anniversary of Chicago rock mainstays 7th Heaven, but mention the milestone to founder Richie Hofherr, and it may as well be a passing footnote. "It’s not necessarily a [nostalgic time] because our train is still moving at such a fast pace and it's really blazing right now," Hofherr told IE's Andy Argyrakis. 7th Heaven has more to accomplish before they begin celebrating. They just want to keep on moving...forward. 6 20 HELLO MY NAME IS DAVID IE's Mike Meyer spoke to David Masciotra, author of Metallica, the latest in Bloomsbury's 33 1/3 series of books, at his house in Highland, Indiana. When not teaching English at the University of St. Francis, in Joliet, Masciotra teaches at South Suburban College. When he's not doing that, he's probably just listening to The Black Album. Read the backstory behind the writing of the book. And yes, the members of Metallica are just regular dudes. Page 22 - 7th Heaven File KATHERINE DAVIS The press throws mud at Riot Fest, The Cubs in concert. If you want to experience the long-buried sound of the classic blues women who laid the foundation for the style, you need to hear Katherine Davis. Davis "teaches blues from a woman's perspective when I go into the classroom,"she says of her years teaching in the "Blues in the Schools"program with Billy Branch. Every year, she performs with the kids at the Blues Fest and she also teaches the children at Clara's House shelter, where she volunteers. Rosalind CummingsYeates has the story.
