Keeping solar green, main sustainability challenges for solar
photovoltaic (PV) industry
More than 80% of solar PV panel production is based in polysilicon, however the
process generates local environmental impacts, atmospheric emissions and waste
management issues, that include the solar e-waste end-of-life cycle disposal. The
objective of the poster is to assess and identify, the challenges and opportunities that
the solar PV industry could find to eliminate, control and mitigate local and global
environmental impact with a multidisciplinary approach that includes: regulation,
technology development and socioeconomic matters.
