OK, this may be yesterday’s news, and has been reported in various media outlets over the last 18 months, but it is too good to pass up. A thief stole a two-foot-long python from a Portland, Oregon, pet store by stuffing it into his pants. Unfortunately for this rather clueless individual, he was almost imme- diately identified from CCTV footage. “We know who he is,” said the store’s owner, before adding that it was a “pretty gutsy” tactic to secrete the snake in his pants, especially since it was just about due for a feed. A police spokesman com- mented that, “Putting a snake down your pants is not super bright. There’s a lot of different ways that could go wrong.” Oh the snake? A Ball Python, of course. The largest event on the WA herping calendar is rapidly approaching, with the 2017 WAHS (West Australian Herpetological Society) Expo to be held at the Claremont Showgrounds on Sunday 16 th July from 10am to 5pm. The expo will feature animals for sale, equipment, merchandise and informative presentations. Attendances at this biennial event have rivalled the largest expos in the eastern states, reflecting a burgeoning local interest in Western Australia’s endemic reptiles. There will al so be a Gala Expo Dinner on Saturday 15 th July, which will be held onsite at the showgrounds and feature Neville Burns regaling the audience with his entertaining anecdotes – some of which may even be based upon a grain of truth. iHerp Australia will also have a presence, with publisher John McGrath in attendance as a guest of the WAHS to attempt to exert some control over Neville! Tickets for the dinner are selling fast, so if you are based in WA, don’t miss out!
